Description

This series of limited edition notecards are reproduced from a group of watercolors painted by artist William Chignalo. These cards are available individually or in packets of four. The card reads: “Jonathan Maynard House Built second half of 18th century As the beginnings of a tavern, the frame of the house was constructed by David Patterson. He never completed this project. Jonathan Maynard bought the frame and moved it closer to Framingham Centre. Maynard was a survivor of several Revolutionary War battles, of capture by Mohawks and of a dramatic rescue from death at the stake by the Mohawk chief. Returning to civil life in Framingham, Maynard became justice of the peace, selectman, Town Clerk, State Representative, State Senator and the Town’s first Postmaster. In the 1840s or 1850s the house underwent an Italianate remodeling. In 1857, Charles Williams, a ship captain, acquired the house and lived here until his death in 1882.”
